Florida Trip, Day 4

Today, we started with homemade waffles and OJ made from Honeybell Oranges.

Then we watched Taken, because I had not seen it. Very enjoyable!

Though I prefer the Lego version

Then I cuddled with FiL's other cat, Spats.
So named for his white feet.

At noon, we supped on homemade chicken soup, and some bread. Mmm. Homey!

We watched some tv, and spent the evening at a friend's place playing Trivial Persuit. Hubby and I won '90,s FiL and friend won Baby Boomer's edition. Good day.

Florida Trip, Day 3

WE'RE GOING TO THE ZOO! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

We went to the zoo.

The Brevard Zoo, to be precise.  It's about 1/3rd the size of the Detroit Zoo, but there's a lot of different stuff. The Australia/Asia section had a really cool aviary where you could feed birds nectar for $1. I did so, and this is what happened:
"I feel like a Disney Princess!"

WTF, he had no food. Especially on his head!

There's more on my other side. SO MANY BIRDS!

We also saw alligators and crocodiles in the Florida section, white Rhinos in the Africa section, and a jaguar in the Rainforest section. There were plenty of assorted birds and monkeys and such, but those were definitely the most impressive things. A real fun stop, and one I'd recommend to anyone down here.

After our zoo trip, we went by a produce shop and got real Florida oranges. I even picked up some Honeycomb, because that is HARD to find.

Gonna eat this sucka. Mmm-mm.

After a late lunch of FiL's shepherd pie, we went to Karaoke at the local club, and watched the Sherman and Mr. Peabody movie. A great evening!

Florida trip, day 2

Today was laid back. We made plans to visit a few things later in the week, like thrift shops and a botanical garden. I'm excited!

We went to a nice cafe for breakfast, and a thrift store where the proceeds go to the humane society afterwards. I got a book!
Not this book

The big thing of the day was my husband's 28th birthday. We watched a bunch of his favorites: Oscar, The Man who Knew too Little, I'm a Grown Little man, and of course his all time favorite The Princess Bride.

I also trimmed the cat's nails, because damn they are playful. My battle scars are already halfway healed. I'm missing Harley, but the cat-patch is helping.
BAWWWWWWWWWWWWW

The weariness from the plane trip and five hours of sleep beforehand has worn off. All in all, a good full first day in Florida.

Florida Trip, Day 1

I'm sitting in the Atlanta terminal after the first leg of my flight to Florida. We're boarding in just a few minutes. So far, everything has been smooth. The Flint airport is small, but clean and easy to navigate. Atlanta is HUGE. We had to take a train from one end to the other. There are more people, more shops and restaurants...just MORE. It's good to know: we have a 3 1/2 hour layover on the flight home. Planning on eating at the lovely TGI Friday's we saw getting off the plane. Or at least the Draft House Grill.

Eating all this right before getting on a plane? Sounds great!

Not much else to say just now: I'm sleepy, but not exhausted. 4ish hours of sleep was enough to do this. Yaaay. Also, not too hungry as I got a Coke and some cookies with the Delta logo on the first flight. Mmm.

Gonna start boarding in 1 minute, so logging off for now. More updates as events warrant.

Later

-------------------------

My father in law picked us up from the airport. On the way home we stopped at a farmer's market and got some powdered dips and lemonade. I also tried Asian zucchini pancakes.

Awwww yisssss

I played with FiL's 2 kitties, Jiggalo and Spats.

Jiggalo is so named because he 'can't get enough love.'

Then we had a HUGE BBQ with the family down here: various cousins, aunts, and grandparents. There were hot dogs, baked beans, cheesy potatoes, and a mound of desserts. By 2:00 I was drooping (I've been up since 3AM, thanks to my early-ass flight), and took a short nap.

Accurate

When the relatives departed, Hubby and I took FiL's golf cart on a spin around the suburb. We saw cranes and a stork!

This, but three and a half feet tall.

Later, we watched John Mulaney, Johnny English Reborn, and Big Bang Theory. We even squeezed in a bonfire!

Not-Accurate

This was a busy, busy, good day. I'm beat, but it's already been cool. I'm still trying to figure out things to do besides eat and visit second-hand shops. As much as I love those things, there's more to Florida, or so I'm told.

For tonight, I'm gonna snack and snooze.  And by the by: it was 68 degrees. I wore flip-flops.

The rubber shoes of victory.

Florida Trip: Day 0

Today is Saturday, the last day before my husband and I leave to visit his father for a week in Florida. The last time I went to Florida I was 18 months old. I'm excited to go at a time when I can eat solid food and remember things.
Sucks to be you, loser!

So, what have I done to get ready for this so far? I've save a bit of spending money, packed 2/3rds of the clothes and toiletries I need and planned what else to pack. That just leaves the rest for tonight when I get off work, hopefully at six, but probably not til later. Yaaay.
Yeah, yeah, first world problems, I know.

I also have to go to the bank to get my last paycheck in/get spending money/coinstar my random change as well. There's snack food to gather, MP3 players to stuff with new content, books to hem and haw over before deciding they're too bulky--

Crap, I don't have time for this, I've gotta get moving!
